Power has the airplane PSRU currently flying in many different
aircraft. This unit weights a mere 60# complete, depending on the version
requested. This PSRU is a cast aluminum one-piece unit made in our own
foundry. We have done all the flight testing in a Cessna 172 that has
logged over 350 hours total flight time using our Chevrolet 350 V8 PSRU.
The latest innovation incorporated into the manufacture of our PSRU is the
Sprague clutch system. We will show this at the EAA Convention this year.
This is currently available as a special order option. This option will be
showing up in the airboat industry very soon.
Alternative Power is offering 55 lbs. Chevrolet
V8 engine chain reduction drive in 1.6 or 1.8 ratio. Crankshaft to prop
centerline lengths of 6.125, 7, 8.625
or 9.25 Prices starting at $3500 each.

CHAIN RATIOS: with the long chain a 1.8:1 ratio = 8.5" between shafts and a 1.6:1 ratio = 9.25" between shafts. With a short chain a 1.8:1 ratio = 6.125" between shafts and a 1.6:1 ratio = 6.875" between shafts.

THE MORSE 5033 CHAIN USED WAS TESTED WITH A 20,000 LBS PULL TEST. THIS 1.25" CHAIN HAS A HEAVIER PYRAMID SHAPED PIN AND DOES NOT HAVE A MASTER LINK, AND AS A RESULT IT HAS THE SAME HP RATING AS OTHER MORSE HY-VO CHAINS THAT ARE 2" IN WIDTH. (SEE PHOTO RIGHT). THE VALUE OF USING A 1.25" WIDTH CHAIN IS THE REDUCTION OF WEIGHT RESULTING FROM A STEEL GEAR THAT IS NARROW.

UNIT 101 HAS SPRING LOADED IDLER MECHANISM ELIMINATES CHAIN FLUCTUATIONS.
|MODEL 102 HAS A
SPRAG CLUTCH INSTEAD OF A SPRING LOADED IDLER MECHANISM.
- THE SPRAG CLUTCH ELIMINATES ALL "POWER PULSES". ON THE POWER STROKE OF THE PISTON. THE "ONE WAY" GRIP OF THE SPRAGUE CLUTCH ON THE MAIN SHAFT IS RATED FOR 2000 HP. ON THE RECOVERY STROKES OF THE PISTON THE CLUTCH RELEASES AND THE PROP CONTINUES AND THUS REMOVES MICROSECOND PULSES THAT CAUSE FRACTURES AND FATIGUE TO THE CRANK AND THE PROP. OTHER RUBBER BISCUIT DESIGNS ARE GOOD BUT THE THE POWER PULSES ARE STILL EVIDENT AT LOW RPM. THE SPRAG CLUTCH PROVIDES A SMOOTHNESS AS IF YOU WERE SITTING IN YOUR CORVETTE. THE COMPONENT CHOSEN IS THE SAME AS FOUND ON SOME TURBINE PROPELLERS AND HELICOPTERS.
